My Story

My name is Rachel Ferullo, I have been an elementary Catholic school teacher for 7 years. My husband and I recently celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and have welcomed our first child over the past year! I am currently living in the Boston area with my husband, son and puppy! I am originally from Cape Cod and spend many summer days there with my family.

I knew I wanted to be a teacher at the early age of three! I remember relentlessly begging my siblings to play school and gleefully teaching a roomful of dolls, along with a reluctant little brother, the ABC’s. I took my first step in achieving my dream when I enrolled in the Elementary Education program at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. I did my student teaching in 4th grade, I loved it so much that I cried on my last day in the classroom!

Post-graduation in 2010, I immediately went on to pursue my Master of Education with an Emphasis in Special Education at Chaminade University of Honolulu. After spending four winters in Maine, it was time for some sunshine!

Along with teaching, I have a strong passion for missionaries and helping the poor. Prior to the start of my teaching career, I took my first missionary trip to Vietnam. This sparked a desire in me to continue travelling and volunteering. I have since gone on three other missionary trips. To read briefly about my trips over the years please click on each link below:

In 2012, I got my first job in the field of education working as a school-wide teacher assistant in a small Massachusetts public school for grades K-5. I ran guided reading groups and provided one-on-one and small group instruction to a multitude of students in various grades. I also observed and worked with incredible teachers and learned so much from spending countless hours in their classrooms.

I finally felt ready for my own classroom in the fall of 2013 and after growing up attending Catholic schools and continuing the tradition through graduate school, I feel blessed to have experienced 7 years of classroom teaching at an amazing Catholic school.

I’ve grown so much as an educator and as a person through my years of teaching. I have found great success in my vocation which I feel is in response to answering God’s call for my life. After 4 years of teaching, I was given the opportunity to also become the lead teacher for grades 1-3.  In this additional role, I organized professional development for my colleagues and worked with administration to improve instruction and curriculum within the school. In 2019, the Archdiocese of Boston awarded me with the Excellence in Education Award. I felt humbled and blessed with this achievement along with all of the rewards that come along with classroom teaching and am very grateful for all of the ways that God has blessed me.

At the award banquet with Thomas Carrol, the Superintendent of the Archdiocese of Boston, and Cardinal Seán O'Malley.

I’ve reached a point where I want to expand upon my career into a more targeted area of education. I took a leap of faith and with a heavy heart resigned from my teaching position in the summer of 2020, with the knowledge that trusting in God’s will is scary but always worthwhile.

I found that I have a gift working with small groups of students and a passion for teaching reading. I want to continue in the field of Catholic education and share my gifts and talents with Catholic homeschool students in an attempt to help foster reading, improve reading skills, and supplement the hard work of home educators in a “little way” that can lead to well-rounded reading success in elementary students.

I am a hardworking, dedicated teacher. I love learning about education and am a student in the field. I am always working to learn more and grow as an educator. I believe learning should be fun and engaging. I embrace the philosophy of whole-brain teaching which leads to success for students of all learning styles. I am a fun, happy teacher who loves children. I make learning engaging and meaningful. I am also a person of deep faith and am passionate about helping my students grow both academically and spiritually.
